Eligibility Criteria for Fulbright US Student Program:

  • To be eligible, applicants must be citizens or nationals of the United States of America at the time of the application deadline. Please review the Award Description for information regarding the eligibility of dual citizens and note that permanent residents are not eligible.
  • Applicants must have obtained a conferred bachelor’s degree or its equivalent before the commencement of the grant period. In the realm of creative and performing arts, individuals with four years of professional training and/or experience meet the basic eligibility requirement.   • Language proficiency is essential. Applicants must meet the language requirements of the specific award they are applying for and demonstrate sufficient competency to successfully complete their project and adapt to life in the host country.
  • Applicants holding a J.D. at the time of application are eligible to apply.
  • Doctors of Medicine can receive grants for advanced academic study but not for internships or residencies. Scholars with an M.D. degree who have completed their formal postgraduate training and intend to engage in independent or collaborative research at a hospital or clinic should explore opportunities under the Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program. Grants do not cover activities requiring a license to practice medicine or nursing. Furthermore, the Fulbright Program does not authorize proposals for medical research involving clinical training, patient care, or patient contact.
